A popular course, which would include sketching in the mornings and turning your sketches into paintings in the afternoon. Some days are spent all day working on a painting and other day’s guests will have an opportunity to paint outside or practice incorporating tonal ranges and colours. The use of tone contrast and tone balance can transform a painting. All courses will include demonstrations and talks on mixing colour, preparing canvases and brushes and talks on composition.
Oil Painting CourseTraditional oil painting techniques often begin with the artist sketching the figure onto the canvas with charcoal or a “clean,” which is thinned paint. Oil paint can be mixed with turpentine or other solvents to create a thinner, faster drying paint. Then the artist builds the figure in layers. A basic rule of oil paint application is “fat over lean” This means that each additional layer of paint should contain more oil than the layer below to allow proper drying. If each additional layer contains less oil, the final painting will crack and peel.
Oil paint enables both a fusion of tones and crisp effects and is unsurpassed for textural variation. It is applied with brushes or thin palette knifes, whether you are a novice or experienced in oil painting come and join a course to practice these different techniques or mix with other people who also love oils. We also run specialist course on other weeks please check out our dates and prices page or contact us for more information.
